Different Motor Vehicle Oil Types

For your next oil change at Vandergriff Chevrolet, we encourage you to think about the type of oil you're predominantly using for these oil changes. There are different types that you can choose from at our service department, and there are a number of factors that you should consider when you are making your selection. From synthetic to conventional, we like to talk to you about the vehicle you drive, the mileage on your car, the climate where you drive, etc.

Full Synthetic Motor Oil

If you're interested in a high-quality oil that will increase your performance and protect your automobile, fully synthetic motor oil is the best option. A high viscosity rating is present, along with being able to protect against sludge, thermal breakdown, and oxidation.

While the cost of full synthetic motor oil is a bit more expensive than other options, the investment is often worth it when you think about the benefits. This is also a great oil to utilize if you live in a location where the temperature outside varies dramatically from season to season.

Synthetic Blend

A synthetic blend motor oil is a mixture of synthetic and conventional oil. The manufacturer of the oil includes additives in the oil that helps your engine resist oxidation. It's easy to make the switch to a synthetic blend if you've been using straight synthetic.

Conventional Motor Oil

Your average vehicle that doesn't travel long distances will benefit from conventional motor oils. This is also a good option for climates that aren't changing frequently, thanks to an adequate degree of engine lubrication.

High Mileage Motor Oil

If you currently have over 75,000 miles on your odometer, your vehicle would benefit from a high mileage oil. These motor oils are designed to reduce the amount of oil consumed by your engine when it runs. You can also reduce your carbon footprint by minimizing your emissions output. Specialty seal conditioners will minimize leaks that could potentially occur within your engine.
