Chevy Introduces the All-New Silverado 4500HD/5500HD

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD

Chevy has officially introduced its new medium-duty work trucks: the all-new Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD. These cab chassis trucks, Class 4 and Class 5 respectively, made their debut along with the Class 6 6600HD at the Indianapolis 2018 Work Truck Show. These vehicles will soon be in production for the 2019 model year.

Although exact model specifications have not yet been released, both the 4500HD and 5500HD will be available in both regular and crew cab styles, in various weight ratings, with different wheelbases, and with both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive systems. Cab-to-axle options will include seven choices ranging from 60 to 162 inches.

Chevy reports that this lineup will offer the most advanced technology in its class. OnStar LTE capabilities, a must for managing modern fleets, will be available on both trucks, as will wireless device charging, Bluetooth connectivity, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

No word yet on alternate engines, but we know the base offering is a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel that blasts out 350 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. This is paired with a premium Allison transmission.

This lineup is designed to offer the most customer-friendly medium-duty trucks on the market, with attributes such as outstanding maneuverability and walk-up engine access, as well as easy to upfit based on your specific business needs. To drive the intuitive appeal of these Silverados, the trucks were tested by truck drivers, technicians, fleet managers, and upfitters who provided feedback on their design.
