When Does Chevrolet Plan To Be All Electric?

Chevrolet is one of the top automakers globally that plans to be all-electric in the coming years. Alongside Kia, Acura, and Cadillac, Chevrolet is working hard to have a lineup of all-electric vehicles that rely on a battery to drive hundreds of miles on a single charge.

Chevrolet recently announced that they plan to only manufacture electric vehicles by 2035. This is a part of the $35 billion shift as General Motors. The CEO, Mary Barra, announced in January that the company plans to no longer make gas-powered vehicles in the coming years.

As one of the top companies on the Fortune 500 list, General Motors is working hard to remain competitive in the auto industry as its sales have declined in recent years. Barra has been responsible for stopping the decline and has been aggressive with positioning General Motors to become more advanced with the models it sells. The company is working hard to have an advantage over its competitors, which include Tesla and Volkswagen.

This significant change will have a large impact on the auto industry, but it won't require making many changes at the GM plants that currently manufacture gas-powered models sold by the company. 80% of the process will remain the same at the plants, with small adaptations made to ensure EV vehicles can efficiently be manufactured. Only 20% of the process will need to be adjusted.

By 2025, GM plans to have 30 new electric models available to consumers to meet the growing demand. This has also included moving up their launch date of all-electric heavy-duty pickup trucks that won't have any emissions by 2035. They have a current target goal of being a carbon-neutral company by 2040. The trucks will continue to deliver the same towing and hauling capabilities without relying on gas to tackle heavy-duty jobs both on and off the road. Currently, GM's heavy-duty trucks are assembled at the Flint Assembly plant, but it's possible that the future electric models will be manufactured at a different facility.

Today, consumers can purchase the Chevy Equinox SUV, an electric version of the gas-powered model. The vehicle is scheduled to be released in 2024 and has a price tag of $30,000. In 2023, drivers can also select the Chevy Blazer EV. By 2024, the Chevy Silverado EV will be released, which will have an impressive driving range of 300 miles, but this may affect the cost of the model.
