What's New for the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette?

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette is a continuation of the C8 platform. The base Stingray package comes equipped with an aluminum 6.2L V8 engine that produces power capable of hitting 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Transmission options include a 7-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic with paddle shift. As exciting as all of that is, it only gets better with the available trim upgrade options.

The 2019 Corvette High-Tech Features

The 2019 Corvette is available in a variety of packages including the Stingray, Stingray Z51, Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1, listed from the base model to the top of the line model. Each model progressively adds features and/or horsepower: upgrading from Stingray to Stingray Z51 comes with a 5 horsepower boost, upgrading from Z51 to Grand Sport adds 19" painted aluminum rims (vs. plain silver), upgrading from Grand Sport to Z06 features a 90 horsepower boost, and upgrading from Z06 to ZR1 boasts an additional 105 horsepower. Also, for the first time, all models are available in coupe or convertible trims (note: ZR1 was previously only available in a coupe trim).

Do The 2019 Corvette Have A Powerful Engine?

2019 Chevrolet Corvette FrontNow for the most exciting part: horsepower stats! The Stingray model is enough to get the average driver's blood pumping, weighing it at 455 horsepower (at 6,000 RPM). The Stingray Z51 and Grand Sport packages weigh in at 460 horsepower (at 6,000 RPM). All 3 of those packages boast plenty of power for novices, and in some cases may even be pushing it! But for experienced drivers that thrive on performance, nothing less than the Corvette Z06 will suffice. Weighing in at a hefty 650 horsepower (at 6,400 RPM), this car is not for the faint of heart. Having said that, for those that want all the raw power that high tech engineering has to offer, there is the Corvette ZR1: this package is an insane, 755 horsepower supercar offering that rivals (and even exceeds) the performance levels of Lamborghinis and Ferraris. As such, the ZR1 has attained legendary status among car lovers.

What Are Some Safety Features of The 2019 Corvette?

2019 Chevrolet Corvette RearThe 2019 Corvette is packed with safety features. These features are standard across all available trims:

  • Anti-lock Brakes
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) automatically senses when tires stop rotating during hard braking, and will adjust the brake pressure to allow for continued rotation. This helps to prevent skidding and allows for more control through turns while braking.
  •
  • Stability control
Stability control automatically reduces power from the engine and/or automatically applies brake pressure when it senses that the handling limits of the vehicle have been exceeded. This aids the driver in maintaining control of the vehicle.
  •
  • Front Impact and Side Impact Airbags
Front impact airbags are included for both driver and passenger to provide protection in collisions occurring in the front portion of the vehicle. Similarly, drivers and passengers are protected by side impact airbags during collisions occurring to either side of the vehicle.
  •
  • Seatbelt Pretensioners
Seatbelt pretensioners are designed to tighten seatbelts during a collision. The tension holds passengers in an optimal position to help prevent or minimize injury.
  •
  • Security System
The security system may not be something for the protection of physical safety, but it does protect property! The 2019 Corvette will only start if the original manufacturer key is used.
